Asbestos found in roofs at these Herefordshire schools
Removing asbestos roofing is among repair work totalling over £800,000 due to be carried out at six Herefordshire schools over the coming summer.
Herefordshire Council is currently seeking contractors to carry out the following:
Work valued at £200,000 to replace and overlay a “failed” roofing system, to remove asbestos “soffits” or roof undersides, and to replace roof lights, is due at Garway Primary School in the southwest of the county.
LED lighting is to be installed and ceilings replaced, along with removing asbestos and replacing external lighting, at Ashfield Park Primary School, Ross-on-Wye, in work totalling £120,000 in value.
Work to replace “failed” roofing at Weobley High School west of Hereford is put at £250,000.

Replacing three canopies which “are failing due to being heavily soiled”, along with decking, at Bosbury CE Primary School near Ledbury, is valued at £130,000.
Renewing roof coverings at Ewyas Harold Primary School will cost £60,000.
Improvements to drainage and replacing door and window units at Almeley Primary School near Kington is also put at £60,000.
All six jobs are currently listed on the government’s Contracts Finder service as open for bids from contractors.
