A "do not eat" warning has been issued for a popular food product sold by Asda.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) issues recalls for a variety of reasons, including when products contain allergens that are not disclosed on the packaging or if plastic is detected in the item. When a product is recalled, for any reason, the FSA shares details on what you should do if you have bought the item, as well as detailed information on why the item has been pulled from sale.

Asda has had to recall a batch of its own-brand Succulent Cooked & Peeled King Prawns because of a labelling error which shows an incorrect use-by date on some 210g packs, making them unsafe to eat. These contain milk and wheat which are not mentioned on the label, meaning there is a possible health risk to anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk and/or wheat.

FSA advice reads: "Asda is recalling the above product. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product.

"These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product. Please see the attached notice."

The warning was made over concerns of potential risk to customers who need to manage their sugar intake. The products being recalled have a use-by date of December 21, 2024, with the batch number L66000.

The warning continued: "If you have bought the above product do not eat them. Instead, return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund.

"The product listed above has been labelled with an incorrect ‘use-by’ which makes them unsafe to eat. For more information please contact Asda Customer services on 0800 952 0101."
