An 11-day search of a Glasgow funeral parlour has concluded as cops continue to probe allegations of missing ashes and financial irregularity.

Forensic teams have combed through A. Milne Independent Funeral Directors premises on Balornock Road in Springburn. The search started on Friday, May 3 and ended yesterday (Tuesday, May 14).

An investigation was launched into the former funeral firm that also had a branch in Dumbarton in regards to the storage and return of cremated remains and allegations of financial misconduct.

The probe comes following reports that the family of Dennis Smillie had been waiting for his ashes for three years. Other families have said loved ones were left untouched for three weeks and they were allegedly refused refunds.

Police say that enquiries are still ongoing to establish any criminality.

Detective Inspector Gerry Shovlin, Clydebank CID, said: "This is a very sensitive and emotive case and we recognise the upset and distress that families have experienced.

"Our investigation has been going on for several weeks now and will continue for some time, due to the level of enquiry that will need to be followed up.

"It is a complex inquiry that involves a number of agencies, but families can be reassured that the ashes of their loved ones are a priority and will be treated with the utmost respect."
