Aston Villa have confirmed Finley Munroe has signed a new professional contract with the club.

The versatile defender has featured regularly for the club’s U21s this season and has captained the side on a few occasions too. Munroe was included in Villa's matchday squad to face Chelsea in the FA Cup at Stamford Bridge back in January.

He came through Chelsea's academy at a young age, before leaving the club a few years ago despite Ashley Cole advising the club to give him a scholarship. Numerous clubs across the country were interested in snapping him up, and both Leicester City and Nottingham Forest offered Munroe a professional contract, but Villa academy chief Mark Harrison won him over before he signed for the club in 2021.

“Finley has worked very hard this season and has been consistent with his performances for the U21s, so this reward of a new contract is well deserved,” Harrison said about Munroe's new deal.

“It is important now he maintains those standards to ensure he makes a positive transition to senior first-team football.

“We look forward to seeing how he develops in this next stage of his career.”

Last week, Villa confirmed George Hemmings has signed his first professional contract with the club, following the likes of Calum Moreland and James Wright in penning their first pro deals in recent months.
