Aston Villa are said to have enquired about Everton’s Amadou Onana.

Villa and French giants PSG are both understood to have contacted Everton about the midfielder, who the Goodison Park club value in excess of £50m. And The Times report Everton “have been hoping” to sell the 22-year-old Belgian international rather than Jarrad Branthwaite before the end of this month to satisfy the Premier League financial rules, having been deducted points last season for previously breaching them.

Manchester United have submitted an opening bid for defender Branthwaite, believed to total £43m, as the summer transfer window opened on Friday. But Everton are expected to reject the offer amid claims they value the centre-back at £70m.

The Times report Everton’s firm stance on Branthwaite is, in part, dictated by their desire to sell Onana, who joined them from Lille for £34m in the summer of 2022. Arsenal are also said to have a “long-standing interest” in Onana, but are not in a position to pursue the player.
