The Premier League has reportedly reminded all of its clubs, including Aston Villa, they will be punished for fraudulent transfers.

The Telegraph report a letter was sent to all 20 top-flight clubs "after days of unusual activity in the transfer window" in which clubs sold one another players. It has been suggested it is an attempt to comply with the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

So far during the summer transfer window, Villa have signed Lewis Dobbin from Everton while Tim Iroegbunam moved to Goodison Park in a separate deal. They are also on the verge of adding Ian Maatsen to their roster in a £37.5m transfer from Chelsea, while the two clubs have been finalising the switch of academy product Omari Kellyman to Stamford Bridge for £19m.

The Telegraph report adds Premier League chiefs will be able to request details on how negotiations took place, to ensure transfers over £1m were conducted in good faith.

If deemed to not meet the Premier League's Fair Market Value (FMV) criteria, clubs have been warned that officials have the power to demand a return of a transfer fee, in full or in part.

Villa continue to do their business, as the sale of Douglas Luiz to Juventus is expected to ensure the club are in the clear regarding PSR.
