Following initial links to Maximilian Beier, German media say Aston Villa are best-placed - even ahead of some Champions League royalty - to land the striker this summer.

A summer transfer window full of twists and turns could yet see plenty of movement at Villa, on top of the deals that have already been completed within the first month of business. To pinpoint exactly where Unai Emery could chop and change his squad, the attacking department is inching towards a reshuffle.

This is because West Ham are currently in pursuit of Jhon Duran, who has only ever served as reserve to Ollie Watkins in his 18 months in England to date. The Hammers' offers are reportedly gradually getting closer to matching the £40m price tag the club initially provided to Chelsea when they first registered interest.

When the Colombian was linked with leaving Villa Park, simultaneous rumours of a replacement option also began to emerge. They were for TSG Hoffenheim's Beier, said to be available for £25m with top German and English sides after his signature.

Now, according to magazine SportBILD via Sport Witness, 'the trend is towards' the Premier League with Villa and Chelsea said to be in a greater position than Liverpool, Manchester United and Brighton to pounce. No reason is stated as to why either a West Midlands or West London switch is more likely than the rest, but what matters most is a sale is fully on the cards.

Hoffenheim are said to require a sale to help balance their accounts so could reluctantly sell their highly-rated prospect. Having been involved with Germany at Euro 2024 this summer, Beier would be expected to return from holiday for pre-season training at the end of the month - at least 'if he is still there', says the report.

Attraction to Beier from top teams derives from his stellar Bundesliga record at the age of 21. Last season his 16 goals in 33 matches were outscored by only four players. The league's website likens his 'lithe frame' and ability to that of Thomas Muller, so £25m would be a major coup for Villa if he is able to emulate the longevity and 557 career goal contributions of the Bayern Munich great.
