Aston Villa are one of a few Premier League clubs who have to raise money before June ends to remain compliant with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

June 30 is the final day of the financial year for the Premier League, with clubs having to submit their accounts. If a club has lost more than £105m over three years - or less if they spent some time outside the top flight - they are in breach of PSR.

Everton and Nottingham Forest were both served points deductions last season for breaching PSR. The Toffees had a 10-point deduction reduced to six on appeal in February for PSR breaches in the three-year period to 2021-22, before receiving another two-point deduction after an independent commission found the club had breached the rules by £16.6m for the three-year period to 2022-23.

Meanwhile, Forest were docked the points in March after an independent commission ruled they had breached the league's PSR. They had exceeded their permitted losses by £34.5m in the assessment period ending with the 2022-23 season, the commission decided.

It is understood that Villa will be PSR compliant once Douglas Luiz's €50m transfer to Juventus goes through. Any further transfer business would be part of the club's football strategy, which was established well over a year ago in preparation for dealing with the Premier League's financial rules.

In a separate deal with Juventus, Enzo Barrenechea and Samuel Iling-Junior will join Villa for £22m.

While Luiz's move to Juventus alleviates Villa's fears over PSR, selling an academy player for pure profit, such as Omari Kellyman, is obviously going to bolster any balance sheet. The 18-year-old is set to sign for the Blues in a deal worth £19m.

Tim Iroegbunam has already joined Everton for a fee of up to £13m, while Villa signed Lewis Dobbin for £9m. Ian Maatsen has joined and Ross Barkley is expected to arrive from Chelsea and Luton Town respectively.
