Atletico Madrid draw up Matt O'Riley Celtic transfer plan B if he proves 'financially unattainable'
Ange Postecoglou snapped up Matt O'Riley during his time at Celtic for an absolute snip.
And Atletico Madrid could approach his Tottenham for a cut-price midfielder move if the Hoops star becomes 'financially unattainable' this summer, according to a report. The former MK Dons man has enjoyed a stunning season under Brendan Rodgers and added goals to his overall game. He has netted 15 and provided 17 assists across all competitions.
The La Liga giants came calling in January with the Scottish champions booting out their approach. They are one of a number of clubs with the likes of Inter to hold an interest in the Parkhead star with Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo reporting that should the Denmark international prove too costly they could turn their hand to Pierre-Emile Hojberg.
The report states with the midfielder entering the final 12 months of his deal, he could come at a cost of £15million euros and that figure is very much in line with what the Spanish side could invest in that position. Diego Simeone is out to strengthen that area of the pitch this summer.
Atletico got a first-hand look at O'Riley in the Champions League earlier this season with the 23-year-old featuring in both group outings. He's under contract at Celtic until 2027 meaning the Hoops will command a big fee to let go of one of their prized assets.
