An Australian ballboy who sparked a mass brawl during the FFA Cup Final was awarded a winners' medal and invited by Sydney FC to lift the trophy.

Sydney FC and Adelaide United went head to head in a thrilling finale with the game going to extra time after a 1-1 draw.

With the game in its final stages, the Reds won a throw-in near the halfway line and the lad picked up the ball but refused to give it back to Adelaide defender Michael Marrone.

A rattled Marrone then appeared to tackle the youngster before feisty Sydney substitute Matt Simon reacted, sparking a mass brawl involving both coaches, players and security.

The late drama marred an end to the riveting final in front of 13,452 people at Allianz Stadium on Tuesday, with the referee sending off Marrone shortly after.

But to rub salt in the Adelaide wounds, the ballboy was then rewarded after Sydney invited him to lift the cup and gave him a winner’s medal.
