Australian Beach Closed After 8-Foot Shark Spotted Close to Shore

Officials closed Mullaloo Beach in Perth, Western Australia, for the second time in a week on Monday, January 9, after an 8-foot-long tiger shark was spotted swimming close to the shore, local media reported.

A video by Perth resident Toby Nicol shows a large shark moving close to beachgoers, Nicol said. The video shows one child with a bodyboard running out of the water and another woman wading in the shallow waters very close to the shark.

Speaking to Storyful, Nicol estimated the shark was around 2.5 meters (8 feet) in length. “We nicknamed it Trevor. The shark has been using the shallows of Perth’s northern beaches for a month now and has had many close encounters with people,” they added.

It’s in the exact same spot where a shark of a similar size caused a scare just last Thursday, reports said. Credit: sunrise_searcher via Storyful
