Avicii's former girlfriend Emily Goldberg dies at 34 one year after announcing 'cancer free'

Avicii's ex-girlfriend Emily Goldberg has died away at the age of 34, just one year after joyfully announcing her "cancer-free" status.

Emily died of a pulmonary embolism on April 3, 2024, in La Jolla, California. A blood clot tragically cut short her life by blocking an artery in her lung.

Her family remembered her as a "vivacious and unique person who experienced many adventures in her all too brief life".

In her final Instagram post last year, Emily shared an image from the hospital, thumbs up, with the defiant caption: "I lived b****."

She revealed: "I have had cancer for the past year. I am now cancer free." reports the Mirror.

Since her passing, Avicii's fans have inundated her post with messages of sympathy, with one fan expressing: "Hope you're reunited with your soulmate Tim and you're both enjoying rest and peace."

Others left simple but heartfelt tributes such as "Rest in peace." and "My deepest condolences to the family and loved ones so sorry for your loss. Rest in peace Emily."

She leaves behind her parents, Julie and Sam Goldberg of La Jolla, and her brother Aaron Goldberg of Chicago, Illinois.

Swedish music sensation Avicii, whose real name was Tim Bergling, tragically took his own life in 2018. He was only 28 years old.

Emily, his girlfriend between 2011 and 2013, shared heart-wrenching images of their time together, captioning it with lyrics from a song he wrote for her: "'Come on babe, don't give up on us. Choose me, and I'll show you love.' Those are lyrics from a song Tim wrote for me. I wish I could have lived up to them."

She went on to express her emotional turmoil by saying, "For the two years we were together, he was my closest confidante, and my best friend. Now I can't look at Bear without knowing I'll never see his face again. I'm still collecting my thoughts and thank you for all your kind words and texts. Wake me up when it's all over, because I don't want it to be real #ripavicii."

She even gave insight into their intimate conversations sharing a Whatsapp chat where she texted, "I love u tim! " The acclaimed DJ responded: "I love you too emilyyyy."

The entertainer was sadly found lifeless in Oman on April 28 2018. His grieving family provided this statement: "Our beloved Tim was a seeker, a fragile artistic soul searching for answers to existential questions. An over-achieving perfectionist who travelled and worked hard at a pace that led to extreme stress. When he stopped touring, he wanted to find a balance in life to be happy and be able to do what he loved most music."

The family expressed their heartache: "He really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life, Happiness. He could not go on any longer. He wanted to find peace. Tim was not made for the business machine he found himself in; he was a sensitive guy who loved his fans but shunned the spotlight."

They continued with a touching farewell: "Tim, you will forever be loved and sadly missed. The person you were and your music will keep your memory alive. We love you. Your family."
