‘Awards Chatter’ Live Pod: Hannah Einbinder on ‘Hacks,’ Debut Stand-Up Special and No Longer Beating Herself Up

Hannah Einbinder, the stand-up comedian and twice Emmy-nominated and twice Golden Globe-nominated star of Max’s Hacks, is the guest on this week’s episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, which was recorded in front of an audience at Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, from which Einbinder herself graduated in 2017.

Over the course of the conversation, the 28-year-old reflects on growing up as the daughter of funny people (her mother, Laraine Newman, was a member of the original Saturday Night Live cast, and her father is Chad Einbinder, a comedy writer and director); how she was changed by going on and then — just as she was getting into stand-up comedy — getting off of Adderall; and, as her first-ever acting gig, landing the role of comedy writer Ava opposite the legendary Jean Smart’s Deborah on Hacks, which is now rolling out its third season.

The conversation closes with Einbinder taking questions from and offering heartfelt guidance to current film students at Chapman.
