Awards Gala to recognize non-profits
Apr. 22—LIMA — The Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce will announce the winners for its annual gala in a little over a week. Local business leaders and companies will be recognized for their work in the community.
One area of honor and recognition is for local non-profits. The three finalists for the non-profits are Crime Victim Services, Family Promise and Heartbeat of Lima. Cenovus Energy is the sponsor for the Non-Profit of the Year Award.
To qualify for the category, non-profits must serve community members in the Lima/Allen County area.
"The agency must promote a safe and accessible workplace and service location for employees and clients," Cenovus Lima Refinery Senior Communications Advisor Heather Rutz said at the Chamber Press Conference. "The agency must mentor new employees, volunteers and board members through adequate training. The agency participates in and supports collaborative efforts among nonprofits and other organizations in the community."
Rutz also said the agency must improve the quality of life for residents and have 150 employees or less.
The director of Crime Victim Services is Amy Weichart-Bayliff. The director of Family Promise is Hellen Douglas. Heartbeat of Lima is currently on the search for a new director.
Crime Victim Services helps individuals heal from trauma and provides safety. The non-profit also works with other entities to help change the community.
Family Promise is a local organization that helps families transition from homelessness to stable housing. The organization also provides resources, counseling and a safe environment.
The Heartbeat of Lima provides free pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, classes and resources for families. The organization also provides counseling services to parents in need.
The annual Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce Gala will be held from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 1 at the UNOH Event Center, 1450 N. Cable Road.
