Azores High heatwave will make UK 'as hot as Spain and Portugal'

An Azores High heatwave which 'is as hot as Spain and Portugal' is set to hit the UK in weeks. It has been forecast by charts and climate maps revealed by Netweather TV.

It is part of its verdict for what lies in store for the rest of June, reports BirminghamLive. On its blog, the meteological service said: "There are signs that the Azores High will strengthen, as is common towards the end of June, and throw up some ridges north-eastwards towards the British Isles, associated with the traditional late June pattern shift towards a stronger Azores High and stronger westerlies on its northern flank.

"The high pressure may ridge across the country more generally later in the week (Monday June 24 to Sunday June 30), perhaps with changeable south-westerlies coming into north-western Britain, though eastern England in particular will remain prone to northerly winds."

The Met Office, in its outlook for June 25 to July, predicts: "There is little sign for any one type of weather pattern to dominate during this period. As such, typical conditions for the UK are most probable with a mixture of weather types.

"All areas can expected to see some spells of drier, sunnier weather, but there will also be showers or longer spells of rain at times. Temperatures are most likely to be close to or slightly above climatological average."

While warmer weather is on its way, the forecast for Coventry and Warwickshire this week shows that we are in for some more wet weather. Thursday (June 13) is set to be the wettest but rain showers are set to continue into Friday and Saturday.

But the latest forecast, which is below, does say that it is going to start feeling warmer, particularly at night.

Today

After a chilly start, it will be a mostly dry day with sunny spells, albeit often rather cloudy. There's the small chance of a shower. Remaining quite cool and breezy. Maximum temperature 17C.

Tonight

Isolated showers continuing, but many places staying dry with clear spells. A rather chilly night once again, with the chance of a patchy grass frost in the countryside. Minimum temperature 5C.

Wednesday

A largely dry day with variable amounts of cloud and sunny periods. The outside chance of a shower. Feeling a little warmer with mainly light winds. Maximum temperature 18C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday

Turning wet and windy on Thursday, then brighter with scattered heavy showers on Friday and Saturday. Rather cool on Thursday, but turning slightly warmer thereafter, especially by night.
