B.J. Novak on Meeting Mindy Kaling’s Baby Daughter Anne: ‘She Is Adorable and the Best’ (Exclusive)

The 'Mindy Project' star quietly welcomed her third baby, Anne, earlier this year

B.J. Novak and Mindy Kaling have famously been longtime friends — so it’s no surprise Novak has gotten to know the latest addition to Kaling’s family.

“Of course,” Novak tells PEOPLE when asked whether he’s met Kaling’s third child, daughter Anne.

“She is adorable and the best,” adds The Office alum, 44, who can be seen in the upcoming special Chain Food: All-Star Dishes on The Roku Channel.

The Mindy Project star, 45, quietly welcomed Anne earlier this year, sharing the news on Instagram on June 24.

Kaling shared a photo of her new little one along with her daughter Katherine "Kit," 6, and son Spencer, 3. She also shared a photo showing her baby bump and an image of her in a hospital bed with her older two children.

"In late February I gave birth to my daughter, Anne. She’s the best birthday present I could’ve ever imagined," Kaling wrote.

"When things are hard, whenever I veer towards cynicism, my three kids are such a great reminder of the pure joy in my life,” her caption continued. “I’m so lucky I live in a place where I could do this by myself, on my own timeline. Thanks for all the birthday wishes!"

Kaling and Novak met in 2004 while working as writers and actors (later producers) on The Office. She played Kelly Kapoor on the beloved NBC sitcom, while he played Ryan Howard.

The pair had an on-again, off-again relationship, which they ended in 2007 while remaining close pals.

Fans even speculated that Novak was the father of Kaling’s kids. However, the Sex Lives of College Girls creator told Marie Claire she wasn’t bothered by the rumors in 2022.

"He's the godparent to both my kids — and they have such a great relationship — and so far [the rumors haven't] affected my happiness at all, it hasn't affected my kids or B.J.," she continued.

"If that's what is going to be titillating to people, I'll take it," she added.

In a 2022 interview with Today, Kaling opened up about Novak’s relationship with her oldest child.

"You know, he said the funniest thing because he's so attached to my older child, my daughter," she said. "When I said, you know, 'B.J., if something happens to me, it's not like I have a husband, like you have to just take the kids.' And he's like 'Oh, my God, don't tempt me.'"

She added, "He said the funniest thing, he was like, 'Can you sue for god-paternity rights? ... He just loves her so much."
