Baby 'in critical condition' after car hits pedestrians in east London

A baby is said to be fighting for its life after a car hit two pedestrians in Havering, east London.

Police were called at 3.24pm to reports of a collision on South End Road in Rainham.

A woman and a baby have been taken to hospital, where police are awaiting an update on their conditions.

The driver of the car, a dark blue Mercedes A180, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug driving.

He has been taken to an east London police station where he remains in custody.

Three pedestrians were injured and were taken to hospital - including a two-year-old baby boy with life-threatening injuries.

The other two victims, two 25-year-old and 32-year-old women, remain in hospital with minor injuries.
