Baby girl killed in Coventry dog attack named as family release picture

A baby girl who died in a tragic Coventry dog attack has been named as Elle Doherty. The seven-month-old died after receiving serious injuries to her head from a bite by the family dog in Shorncliffe Road.

The dog has since been destroyed. West Midlands Police have today confirmed the dog was a Belgian Malinois.

Detectives have also confirmed that they have carried out a detailed investigation into what happened and that no criminal offences were committed.

Police and paramedics arrived on scene within two minutes of being called at 3pm on Sunday. Elle was treated at the scene before being rushed to hospital where she sadly died.

The Coventry community has rallied to support the family, sharing their well-wishes in hundreds of messages on the CoventryLive Facebook page.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “Elle received treatment at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to hospital for further treatment. Tragically, she died a short time later. Our thoughts remain with her family at this devastating time.

“The pet dog, registered as a Belgian Malinois, was removed from the home on Sunday and humanely destroyed.”
