“The Bachelorette”'s Ryan Sutter Says He and Wife Trista Had a 'Long Year' But Nothing 'Really Bad' Is Going On

The reality star said on the June 17 episode of 'The Most Dramatic Podcast Ever with Chris Harrison' that he deals with "loneliness" and "health issues"

Ryan Sutter caused quiet the stir last month with multiple cryptic Instagram posts about his wife Trista Sutter that led fans to think she died or that the couple was on the rocks.

Ryan, 49, admitted on the June 17 episode of The Most Dramatic Podcast Ever with Chris Harrison that, while he and Trista, 51, have had their challenges during this last school year, he didn’t mean to imply anything negative with his May social media posts.

“I'll go months without a post, and then suddenly I'll get, like, in a mood, and I'll send something,” Ryan told Harrison, 52. “And this was a particular thing that Trista was doing, and it was the end of the school year. It's been kind of a long year for us, moving and lots of things going on. So, whatever the culmination of all that happened, and I was in that sort of place, so I sent that out.”

The Sutters relocated to Denver to “put the full focus on our kids,” Ryan explained. “They're my representation of who I am and who I want them to be. And I just want to give them as much as I can at this point in their life to set them up to be successful, caring, sympathetic, empathetic, smart, young people. And so that's why, you know, Trista and I moved to Denver.”

The Bachelorette alum added that he feels some pressure as a public figure to let people into his life. “I feel like I do have some responsibility as someone that people know a little bit about to share in some of that and let people know, hey. I deal with loneliness, too. I deal with health issues, too,” Ryan told the ex-Bachelor host.

But had anything actually been wrong with him or Trista, Ryan wouldn’t have aired their dirty laundry online.

“If there was something really, really bad happening in my life, I wouldn't be telling anyone,” Ryan said. “Like, that's the other side of me that you probably know is that I have a most of my personal life stays pretty personal.”

Ryan continued to explain that his “take on social media is twofold.”

“I mostly only use Instagram because I like pictures, and I love looking back on my life and reflecting on with the fatherhood theme, reflecting on my kids when they were younger,” he stated. “And the writing portion of it just reminds me of the emotional states I was in at those particular times.”

Suspicion started when Ryan posted on Instagram on May 12 about how he wished Trista could be with him and their kids Maxwell, 15, and Blakesley, 16, on Mother’s Day.

“Sometimes being a mom means letting go of their hands, granting independence and stimulating their courageous spirit,” Ryan wrote. “Sometimes it’s necessary to exemplify the characteristics you preach - to do rather than say. Sometimes it takes being uncomfortable and scared to show them that it’s ok to be uncomfortable and scared. Sometimes you have to go away so they know you’ll come back, that your love is not limited by distance or difficulty or time.”

Then on May 17, Ryan posted about how he wished he could talk to Trista, but he knew she needed time away to “discover yourself again.”

“I’d really like to hear your voice - just for a minute,” he Instagrammed. “So many times I’ve called without much to say, not realizing how lucky I was or how much I’d miss the opportunity if it were gone.”

Ryan told Harrison that commenters started telling him to “stop it with the drama.”

“It was nuts,” the reality star added.

When Trista regained access to social media, she explained on Instagram that she’d been given “an opportunity for perspective and personal growth” that Ryan couldn’t say much about.

“He doesn’t owe anyone any explanation or require permission to post what he wants to post and share what he wants to share 💯,” she wrote on May 25. “If you want to know the rest of the story, I will share in due time.”

The family then took a trip to Mexico together and Trista and Ryan shared photos with one another from the trip.

“We do our best - to do and to be good, to live and to treat others well,” the pair Instagrammed on May 29. “We make decisions not knowing the outcome but hoping we’re on the right path - hoping the questions will be answered in time. We try to be a positive example, to care, to trust the process and to believe others will trust our intent is not malicious or misguided or mean.”

Ryan said on The Most Dramatic Podcast Ever that he finds himself “soaking up every opportunity” to watch his kids “do the things they love to do.”

“And, like, this trip to Mexico, just hanging out with them and going snorkeling and, you know, I would be dead tired from surfing or something, and Blake would wanna go out and snorkel,” Ryan said. “And you're like, oh, yeah, let's go let's go do it. Because in the back of your mind, you're like, you just know your opportunities to do this are limited as they continue to grow and become more independent.”

Ryan called Trista the “most nurturing, caring person” and said they remain focused on raising their kids.

“That's been the real focus," he said. "It's not keeping them necessarily just, like, actually safe, you know, like, making sure they don't drown and you know, crack their head open anymore. It's basically setting them up to be competent young adults and confident people."
