Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transportation, roads, and highways, rolled up his sleeves to join Hull City Council's civil enforcement officers on the ground.

The immersive experience took place on Friday 5 July, providing Cllr Ieronimo with a first-hand look at the day-to-day operations, challenges, and successes of the officers.

While on patrol, he observed the officers as they dealt with a range of issues, from straightforward parking infringements to more heated disputes and disruptive behaviour. He noted how the officers used their discretion to enforce the law while showing understanding and taking into account the unique circumstances of each case.

Impressed by the team's commitment and professional conduct, Cllr Ieronimo praised the civil enforcement officers for their unwavering dedication to keeping the city's streets in check, upholding rules, and safeguarding the community.

Reflecting on the experience, Cllr Ieronimo remarked: "Spending the afternoon with our civil enforcement officers was truly enlightening and I gained profound knowledge and respect for their work."

"Their dedication to keeping our streets safe and orderly is commendable. The officers exemplify professionalism, and their ability to make a judgment call that is fair and orderly, even when the situation is unclear, is exemplary."

"I appreciate their hard work and the positive impact they have on our community."

In a bid to bolster civil enforcement across the city, the council has recently undertaken an extensive recruitment drive. This has resulted in a nearly fully staffed team, leading to a positive shift and a boost in staff morale.

Efforts have also been made to expand enforcement action throughout Hull, including increasing the number of officers on mopeds for easier access to the city boundaries.

A temporary role overseeing city centre car parks has also been introduced. This role ensures uniform standards while dealing with issues related to anti-social behaviour and overall cleanliness.

Cllr Ieronimo stated: "The recent changes made within the team reflect our dedication to providing efficient and effective civil enforcement services, benefiting both residents and visitors alike."

"By ensuring that our officers are present across all key areas of Hull, from the city centre to the city boundaries, we can address issues promptly and maintain safety and order."

"I look forward to seeing how these improvements continue to positively impact our communities."
