Since the show’s success, rumours have been circulating about the possibility of a follow-up.

But Tom Hiddleston, who played concierge turned spook Jonathan Pine, has said ‘that’s yer lot.’ While promoting the drama in the US, Tom said: “As it stands, Pine exists for six hours in a mini series. The story feels complete.

“I only ever conceived of it as an adaptation of a complete novel. We made some alterations, we updated it so it had a political resonance and we changed the ending a little bit. I know the rumours about it extending, but none of that is real.” Sob.

And his co-star, Hugh Laurie agreed adding: “It’s based on a novel, we’ve got to the end of the novel and John le Carre has yet to write another novel.
“So in cold practical terms, no, we’re done.”

Laurie starred as arms dealer, Richard Roper, in the six-part series. Both his character and Tom’s fates were left open at the end of the run, leading fans to hope there may be more to come.

It was previously reported that the BBC were in talks with production company The Ink Factory, which is managed by two of John le Carre’s sons. They were thought to be interested in filming a second series based on the characters.

Sad times.
