Fans demand Bafta for Jodie Comer after 'Help' performance

Jodie Comer fans are calling for the star to get a Bafta for her “raw and authentic” performance in the drama Help.

The actor is best known for playing quirky assassin Villanelle in Killing Eve, and has won many awards for the part.

But she showed off a very different side in the Channel 4 drama, which followed a care home worker and a patient with early onset Alzheimer’s (Stephen Graham) and how their lives were affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

Viewers were bowled over by both Comer and Graham's dazzling performances.

Many have now posted messages on Twitter saying they deserve accolades for their performances.

"@BAFTA y’all have your winner in Jodie Comer, just mail her all the trophies already,” one person tweeted.

Another said: “Wow. First of all anything with @StephenGraham73 gets my watch. Always. Secondly. Jodie Comer? TAKE A BOW! that is surely a @BAFTA nomination right there.

"Absolutely raw and authentic performances. Emotional. Highlighting such REAL and IMPORTANT issues.”

“Give Stephen Graham & Jodie Comer the BAFTA now,” said another.

“Actually, give them every award out there for showing us the incredible, disgraceful, heart-breaking truth.”

Critics have also given Help the thumbs up.

The Guardian gave it four out of five stars and said the first two thirds provide “one of the most evocative and harrowing depictions of recent history we have yet seen”.

The Telegraph also dished out four out of five stars and said Comer and Graham gave “fantastic performances”, adding: "Comer’s Bafta nomination is nailed on."
