Bafta Rising Star Nominations Revealed

Bafta has revealed the names of five young actors who will be competing for this year's Rising Star award.

Two British names are among the nominees for the trophy, which recognises stars of the future.

Will Poulter, who starred in Son Of Rambow and alongside Jennifer Aniston in last year's comedy We're The Millers, is up against George MacKay, whose films include the Scottish hit Sunshine On Leith.

Poulter, 20, said: "It still hasn't really sunk in, but to be in a range of films that vary in budget and style is something I'm very grateful for and something I hope I can continue with. But to be recognised alongside these guys is phenomenal."

MacKay, who was a child actor, said: "I'm blessed that I didn't worry too much about it when I was a kid or overthink things, and I learned a lot unconsciously, but now I'm really ready and excited to learn as much as I can and do as much different work as I can to make a concerted effort to think for myself about what I want to do and carve a path for myself."

The pair are up against Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong'o, who made her American debut in Steve McQueen's 12 Years A Slave.

French model and Palme d'Or Award-winning actress Lea Seydoux has made her name in films such as Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds and Woody Allen's Midnight In Paris.

Another bright star of the future shortlisted is American actor Dane DeHaan.

The 27-year-old made his name in the TV series In Treatment, but performed in Lincoln and The Place Beyond The Pines. Next summer he is due to star alongside previous Rising Star nominee Andrew Garfield in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Seydoux joined Poulter - who also appeared in Narnia film The Voyage Of The Dawntreader - and MacKay at Bafta's headquarters in London to celebrate their nominations.

The nominees were selected by a group of jurors including actress Gemma Arterton, deputy chair of Bafta's film committee Pippa Harris and film critic Mark Kermode.

The EE Rising Star award is the only one voted for by the public.

Previous winners include Juno Temple, Tom Hardy and Kristen Stewart.

Nominations for the ceremony's other awards will be announced on Wednesday with the event taking place in London on Sunday, February 16.
