Hannah Waddingham was branded an 'icon' by those tuning in to watch the BAFTA TV Awards 2024 after she missed out in her category. The Ted Lasso star was among the famous faces bringing glamour to the red carpet on Sunday night (May 12).

It was a star-studded night in the capital as the stars of the small screen united in force as they headed to London's Royal Festival Hall to celebrate the best in TV from the past 12 months during a glamourous ceremony which Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan return as the hosts.

As the prestigious event began, actors and reality stars made their way down the carpet ahead of the award ceremony, posing for the camera under the Southbank's glistening sun. Then it was time for the ceremony to get underway with the prestigious Bafta trophies being handed out left, right and centre

Hannah's show, Hannah Waddingham: Home For Christmas, was nominated for the best entertainment gong at the event. However, it was Strictly Come Dancing who took home the prize.

As the results were revealed, Hannah, 49, could be seen celebrating her loss in the best way after the camera panned briefly to her following the announcement.

The actress could be seen grinning at the camera before she raised her bracelet, which doubled as a small flask, to her lips and took a swig, raising it again to the lens in a “cheers”.

And Bafta viewers took to social media to say the actress was "just amazing" for her flask-bracelet accessory. Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one viewer wrote: "Hannah Waddingham drinking out her bracelet. ICON.” Another said: "Legend that Hannah Waddingham is, drinking out of her bracelet."

"Hannah Waddingham’s reaction to losing to Strictly was just amazing," a third commented. A fourth posted: "Love how the baftas to Hannah Waddingham when they announced the winners were strictly… she’s so doing it this year." Another added: "Hannah Waddingham how I love you."

While her own show lost out to Strictly, the star did get her moment later on in the ceremony when the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 won the award for live event coverage.

The star, who was hailed as a national treasure when she co-hosted last year’s competition in Liverpool, took to the stage with other members of the crew to accept the accolade.
