Fans have moved on from the Beeb's incarnation of The Great British Bake Off, and now former hosts Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins have too.

Moving far away from cakes, bunting and even Mary Berry, Mel and Sue are heading back to their comedy roots as they gear up for their very own sitcom, Hitmen.

The brand new six-part series, which is Mel and Sue's first ever scripted comedy venture, will air on Sky – and will star the iconic duo as you've never seen them before.

Mel and Sue will play contract killers Jamie and Fran respectively, two 'hitmen' who are notably terrible at their job and the bizarre mishaps and dilemmas it throws at them.

Shitmen, if you like.

Hitmen will follow the incompetent killing machines that are Jamie and Fran as both their friendship and their very lives are put through the ringer.

Teasing that classic Mel and Sue dynamic fans know and love, Sue said that she was "delighted" to be part of the upcoming project in a statement.

"I can't wait to sit for months on end in a hot van with my old, flatulent, double act partner," she said.

Mel added: "It's thirty years ago that I met Sue Perkins, and we had happy times together playing ridiculous characters, then spent hours in a fetid van in order to release them around the country.

"Essentially nothing has changed in the Mel/Sue collective. And that's a great comfort."

Hitmen is expected to premiere on Sky One in 2019.
