Why Matty applied to Bake Off
It was Lara who spurred Matty onto apply to The Great British Bake Off and go out to get his dreams.
When he lifted the Bake Off trophy, he thanked his love for giving him the encouragement he needed to apply to the show.
He said: "I don't know what to say. People said, 'You should go on Bake Off', and I just thought it was a throwaway comment, I never really listened to it. I never thought I would be on this, let alone win it."
Supporting Matty behind the scenes
Moments after winning, Matty gave an insight into his close bond with his love Lara as he credited her for his success on the show.
In his winning announcement, the star admitted he didn't make a single dinner for 10 weeks - leaving everything at home to his love.
The baker revealed how Lara had been a huge support to him behind the scenes of the show.
He wrote on Instagram: "Thank you so much to all of my family for every bit of support and encouragement. Lara, I can’t imagine I was fun to live with at times and I am so grateful for the sacrifices you made for me throughout this! I don’t think I made dinner for 10 weeks.
"You had to live the Bake Off journey with me but never got to do the fun part. Through the highs and lows of my journey, you picked me up countless times, supported me and gave me the confidence I needed each week. Without you I wouldn’t have been able to do any of it (literally, Lara, I now thank you for applying for me."
