Bake Off's Sandi reveals honest reason for leavingChannel 4

Former The Great British Bake Off co-host Sandi Toksvig has opened up about her reasons for leaving the series.

The QI presenter joined the baking show when it moved to Channel 4 in 2017 alongside Noel Fielding, though left after three series, subsequently being replaced by Matt Lucas.

Speaking to the Radio Times, Toksvig gave a brutally honest answer over her decision to depart, admitting that she "stopped having fun" on the show.

"To be honest, I left Bake Off because I stopped having fun. I was literally standing there watching meringues dry and thinking, 'Oh my God, my brain is atrophying,'" she said.

"So after three years, I thought, 'That’ll do, go and do something else!'

"I’m in love enough with the business to think, 'OK, that’s a nice pay cheque, but it doesn’t work for me. I’ll move on and do something else,'" the star added.

Bake Off is currently presented by Noel and Alison Hammond – the latter of whom took over from Matt last year following his own departure after three series.

In other Bake Off news, 2020 series contestant Laura Adlington has revealed that she has stopped baking after enduring trolling on the show from some viewers.

"The show completely changed my life, but not really," she explained on Lorraine. "I must admit I lost my love for it after Bake Off because I got trolled really badly and people were saying I was rubbish, and I shouldn't have got through to the final."

Presenter Lorraine Kelly went on to urge Laura to "ignore them and keeping making cakes" as "people are ghastly" and would "never say that to your face".

The Great British Bake Off and its spin-off Bake Off: An Extra Slice both air on Channel 4 in the UK. In the US, it's known as The Great British Baking Show, and streams on Netflix.
