Bank Holiday revellers injured in 'terrifying' CS gas attack in nightclub

Bank Holiday revellers were left vomiting and suffering breathing problems and burning eyes after a “terrifying” CS gas attack in a nightclub.

Two people were rushed to A&E after 14 people were affected by the alleged attack at 1.30am on Saturday.

Emergency services including paramedics and a hazardous response team were sent to the Nu Bar nightclub in Kidderminster, Worcestershire after reports CS gas had been set off.

West Midlands Ambulance Service tweeted: “Two ambulances, @WMASHART [Hazardous Area Response Team] and a paramedic officer were sent to Nu Bar,
Kidderminster at about 1.30am this morning (Saturday) after reports CS gas had been set off.

“Ambulance staff assessed 14 people who had mild symptoms. Two people were discharged but 2 were taken to A&E.”

Paramedic Peter Bowles, who tweeted a picture of the ambulances lining the street, added: “Ambulance/HART staff adopted some of the Remove Remove Remove principals to remove contaminants Signs suggested CS gas as the potential agent.

“Exposure can cause lacrimation, blepharospasm, burning sensation of throat & nose, chest tightness, sneezing, coughing & retching.”

West Mercia Police said a 29-year-old man from the town was arrested in connection with the incident.

A spokesperson said: “A 29-year-old man from Kidderminster was arrested on suspicion of possessing a weapon for the discharge of a noxious liquid or gas and assault ABH. He remains in police custody at this time.”

Witnesses described the “absolute” panic which gripped the nightclub following the attack.

One man said: “It was terrifying. I’d gone to the toilet but when I came out all I could hear was screaming and people were covering their eyes.

“One lad took his T-shirt off and used it to cover his mouth as he searched for his girlfriend.

“I rushed outside and people were saying someone had gassed the club.

“Everyone was in an absolute panic. I managed to get out but people were vomiting and coughing up because of the gas. It was nasty.”
