Barbenheimer at the Grammys! “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” Both Win at 2024 Grammy Awards Ahead of Oscars
The films are both up for Best Picture and other awards at the 2024 Oscars, held March 10.
The awards continue for blockbusters Barbie and Oppenheimer.
Both films, which debuted in theaters the same weekend last summer and sparked the "Barbenheimer" viral trend, won Grammys on Sunday.
At the annual music-industry awards show, Barbie The Album won best compilation soundtrack for visual media, beating AURORA; Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - Music from and Inspired By; Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3: Awesome Mix, Vol. 3; and Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.
Billie Eilish's "What Was I Made For?" won best song written for visual media, beating Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice's "Barbie World," Dua Lipa's "Dance the Night," "I'm Just Ken," and Rihanna's Black Panther sequel song "Lift Me Up."
Plus, Eilish's Barbie tune won the coveted song of the year category, which also included nominees: "A&W" by Lana Del Rey, "Anti-Hero" by Taylor Swift, "Butterfly" by Jon Batiste, "Dance the Night" by Dua Lipa, "Flowers" by Miley Cyrus, "Kill Bill" by SZA, and "Vampire" by Olivia Rodrigo.
Eilish, 22, performed "What Was I Made For?" during the ceremony with her brother Finneas O'Connell, 26, on piano. For the performance, Eilish dressed as the 1965 limited-edition Poodle Parade Barbie.

Meanwhile, Oppenheimer won the Grammy for best score soundtrack for visual media, which includes film and television, for composer Ludwig Göransson. The other nominees were: Barbie, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, The Fabelmans and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
At the upcoming Academy Awards, Oppenheimer leads as the movie with the most nominations, 13 total. Barbie, also nominated for Best Picture, has eight total nominations.
The 2024 Oscar nominees for Best Original Score are American Fiction, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Killers of the Flower Moon, Oppenheimer and Poor Things.

Additionally, two Barbie tracks are up for Best Original Song: Eilish's "What Was I Made For?" and "I'm Just Ken," performed by Ryan Gosling in the movie. The other nominees are "The Fire Inside" from Flamin' Hot, "It Never Went Away" from American Symphony and "Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People)" from Killers of the Flower Moon.
Eilish's "What Was I Made For?" already won a Golden Globe in January for best original song.
The 96th annual Academy Awards will be held Sunday, March 10, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood and will air live on ABC. The show will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, his fourth time in the gig.
