Manchester City's preparations for the 2024-25 season will begin in the coming days, with teams across the Premier League set to begin pre-season.

Manager Pep Guardiola will be targeting a seventh Premier League title of his term at City as he looks to fend off competition from Arsenal and Liverpool once more.

In the meantime, before preparations for the new campaign begin, we take a look at the latest news and rumours surrounding City.

Barcelona delete post bidding farewell to City loanee

Barcelona appear to have deleted a post bidding farewell to Manchester City loanee Joao Cancelo.

Cancelo spent the 2023-24 season at the La Liga giants and is set to return to the Etihad after his loan agreement came to an end at the end of June.

On Sunday, though, Barcelona posted a message on X thanking the right-back for his efforts during the season, writing: "Moltes Gracies."

However, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Barcelona have held talks with Cancelo's agents over a return to the Nou Camp this summer.

MEN Sport says: Cancelo has not played a competitive game for Manchester City since 2022, and it appears that the Portugal international has no future at the Etihad. Despite once being regarded as one of the more influential players in Pep Guardiola's system, Cancelo's stock has plummeted in recent years, and, as a result, he has spent the last 18 months on loan at Bayern Munich and Barcelona, respectively.

In recent weeks, Cancelo has made no secret of his desire to seal a return to Barcelona, and with a redemption at the Etihad unlikely, it is perhaps best for all parties if a permanent solution is found this summer.

City 'set to sign' Chelsea prodigy

Manchester City have reportedly agreed to sign teenager midfielder Ryan McAidoo from Chelsea.

That's according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims the 2008-born player will move to the Etihad this summer after City successfully fended off interest from other Premier League teams.

MEN Sport says: If McAidoo is to sign for City this summer, then it is another huge coup for the club, who have made quite the habit of developing fine youth teams. Between 2020 and 2023, City won three consecutive Premier League 2 titles.

And although McAidoo would likely begin his trade in the under-18s first, it is no doubt more good news for the long-term success of the Manchester City academy.
