Basil Brush is making a bid for the Christmas number one with a song that sees him reunited with some classic kids' TV characters.

The fox puppet includes his catchphrase "boom boom!" in the song's title, 'Boom! Boom! It's Christmas Again' which will donate all proceeds to Save The Children and the Shooting Star Chase children’s hospice.

Basil Brush isn't the only blast from the past to appear on the festive track, as he will be supported by some of his former kids' TV peers including Rainbow characters Bungle, Zippy and George, Mr Blobby who has previously made his own bid for chart glory, and Muffin the Mule.

Characters from decades of children's TV, from the 1960s up to the present day, are set to appear in the music video alongside Basil Brush.

The Basil Brush Show, which originally featured Ivan Owen as the voice of the well-spoken fox, ran from 1968 to 1980, with the character appearing on various other shows throughout the 80s.

After Owen's death in 2000, Michael Winsor took over the voice role and The Basil Brush Show relaunched from 2002 until 2007.

He has also appeared on a number of other shows, including Celebrity Juice, Good Morning Britain and Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two.

This is not Basil's first brush with festive music, as Chris Clark, who wrote, arranged and produced the track, also directed his video for 'White Christmas' in 2018.

'Boom! Boom! It's Christmas Again' will be released on 25 November and the music video featuring Basil Brush's friends can be seen on YouTube from 19 November.
