A motorist who was likened to the Dark Knight because his car resembles the Batmobile has been stopped for driving without insurance in Manchester.

Police jokingly referred to the motorist as a “Batman Wannabe” when he was pulled over in the city centre.

Officers suggested his Dodge Challenger looked like the Caped Crusader's ride but added the pretend superhero had failed to get insurance.

They said the seizure of the vehicle would have done Batman’s arch-nemesis the Joker a favour.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) traffic tweeted: “#GMPTraffic saw this Batman Wannabee over revving his engine whilst driving round the city tonight.

“However, Alfred forget to insure the fake Dark Knight's ride, so we did the Joker a favour and seized the Batmobile. 'KA-POW 'he's now on the bus back to Wayne Manor.”

It comes after an “outrageous” motorist was pulled over when he was caught driving a people carrier with no front tyre last month.

Images showed the light blue Renault with a missing front right tyre, no license plate and a gaping hole in the bodywork after police had stopped it in Nottinghamshire.

The back right tyre was also flat.

Nottinghamshire Roads Policing Unit said the vehicle had been seen driving in Ollerton and was reported by “concerned members of the public”.

In their post via their Twitter account, the force said they had no idea how the vehicle had still been able to move.

In September, a driver was pulled over for carrying a rolled-up carpet on their roof and bonnet.

The motorist was stopped in Plympton, Devon, with the carpet draped over the length of the vehicle, including the front and rear windows.

The huge carpet was attached to the roof by bungee cords, with police calling it "unbelievable" and issuing the motorist a ticket.

Devon and Cornwall Police shared an image online after intercepting the driver on the A38 at the Deep Lane junction.
