Disappointed Antiques Roadshow fans blasted 'make it stop' as the long-running show was taken off air on Sunday in order for football to air on two channels at the same time.

A staple of the weekend schedules for decades and decades now, Antiques Roadshow still pulls in great audiences for the BBC as members of the public turn up with heirlooms to show to experts in the hope they'll tell them they're worth a fair amount of money. Loyal Antiques Roadshow fans also love tuning in week after week as they try to guess how much some of the items will be valued at.

In a break with tradition, there was no Antiques Roadshow on Sunday, June 23, with it nowhere to be seen on either the schedules for BBC1 or BBC2. Over the last 10 days, some big shows that usually air on BBC1 have been moved to BBC2, in order for Euro 2024 action to take priority. However, that wasn't an option on Sunday, as, with two Group A matches taking place at exactly the same time, Scotland v Hungary was on BBC1, with Germany v Switzerland on BBC2.

As viewers reacted with upset at a new episode Antiques Roadshow didn't air as expected, there was some good news as, while it might not have been in its usual home on BBC1, the programme had a whole night dedicated it over on BBC4. This year marks 45 years since the Antiques Roadshow made its debut on screen and, to mark the occasion, a host of classic episodes, each featuring a different presenter from years gone by, aired one after the other.

And, on realising that they could still get their Roadshow fix, fans quickly took to social media to celebrate, as others continued to hit out at the BBC for 'cancelling' it. Venting their anger, one wrote: "When you realise there is no Antiques Roadshow because they're showing football instead," as another blasted: "Make it stop!"
