Bargain Hunt's Charles Hanson has been left outraged after his Derbyshire auction house was targeted by thieves. The raiders stole many items including silver, watches, and jewellery.

The break-in at Hansons Auctioneers in Etwall was discovered early yesterday morning [April 17]. It has meant a four-day auction event scheduled to start today has been postponded until next week.

Charles, 45, who is also known for his roles on BBC Antiques Road Trip and Flog It!, told The Sun: "It's despicable and sad that my Etwall saleroom has been broken into but, thankfully, limited mess and disturbance has occurred. This was due to our security system and the police who were quickly on the scene."

He added: "Sadly in this world, instances like this occur. However, we thrive on what we do across Derbyshire, Staffordshire and the UK and we will quickly recover. Any vendors affected by this upsetting incident will be properly compensated through our insurance policy. Clients who have any concerns should contact the saleroom, or myself, directly."

A statement on the company's website announced: "Due to unforeseen circumstances and with our apologies our four-day auction due to start today has been temporarily delayed until further notice. We hope to start the auction tomorrow or early next week. We will update further on our website and social media soon."

A spokesperson for the police said: "Officers remain at the scene of the incident and there will be an ongoing presence there as the investigation continues." Following the theft, authorities have made a public call for information and are encouraging anyone with knowledge to step forward, offering the option to contact CrimeStoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
