The BBC has apologised after a blunder saw them play a 70s hit song over a report on the Iran drone attack. The bizarre spectacle left many viewers scratching their heads.

Ladies Night, a hit song by Kool & the Gang, was played during a Radio 2 bulletin as a spokesman for the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) discussed the weekend's attempted strike during.

As Lieutenant Colonel Peter Lerner began an attack on the Iranian state, the lyrics "oh, what a night" were heard playing in the background. As he said the nation were a "substantial enemy" the lyric "oh yeah" could be heard, The Express reports.

The song was heard playing as Judi Love prepared to take over presenting duties for Rob Beckett. Listeners immediately caught on to the mistake, with one asking whether it was "amateur hour" at the broadcaster.

They have since apologised and said that the song was due to play at the beginning of Judi's show. One listener said: "I couldn't believe they could have played that. Surely, at a time when everyone is fearing World War 3, we didn't need to hear that."

A spokesperson for the BBC told the Daily Mail: "The introduction of the first song to be played on Judi Love's show was played within a part of the Radio 2 news bulletin at 5pm by mistake, and we apologise for the error."
