BBC confirms cast for new true story drama with Connor Swindells

The BBC has announced the cast of its upcoming drama Lockerbie.

The six-part series, set to air on BBC One and iPlayer before heading to Netflix globally, will follow the devastating true events of the 1988 Lockerbie bombing and the subsequent joint investigation between Scotland and the US.

It's now been confirmed that Sex Education's Connor Swindells has been cast in the series, alongside an all-star cast including Patrick J. Adams (Suits), Eddie Marsan (The Power) and Lauren Lyle (Outlander).

Mary & George's Tony Curran and Downton Abbey's Phyllis Logan also star.

On December 21, 1988, a bomb exploded on a flight from Heathrow to JFK over the small Scottish town of Lockerbie, killing 43 Brits and 190 Americans.

Lockerbie will centre on the two nations' joint investigation into the bombing, as well as the "devastating effect it had on the small town and the families who lost loved ones".

The official synopsis continues: "From the initial exhaustive search for evidence on the ground in Scotland, via the US and Malta to the trial at Camp Zeist in 2000, the drama takes us right up to the most recent indictment at the end of 2022."

The series, which has already begun production in Scotland, is written by Jonathan Lee and Gillian Roger Park, while Michael Keillor directs.

Lockerbie isn't the only upcoming series based on the tragic events, as it was recently announced that Colin Firth will lead a new Sky drama also titled Lockerbie.

Firth will take on the role of Dr Jim Swire, who "embarks on a relentless journey" for justice after his daughter is killed in the tragedy.

Lockerbie will air on BBC One and iPlayer, before heading to Netflix globally.
