Fans tuning in to the Eurovision Song Contest were left confused when they spotted a second Olly Alexander who 'looks more like' the Years and Years singer than the man himself.

It was a big night for 33-year-old Olly as he represented the UK in the 68th edition of the Contest. Following Loreen’s victory in Liverpool in 2023 with the song Tattoo, the 2024 run of the world's biggest music event took place in Sweden, more specifically Malmo Arena in the coastal city in southern Sweden.

It is the seventh time Sweden has hosted the world's biggest music event and this year it was hosted by a Hollywood star and an iconic Eurovision veteran; Malin Åkerman and Petra Mede.

TV chat show host and Eurovision icon Graham Norton said "it’s been quite an eventful Eurovision this year" as the annual song contest kicked off with his commentary on BBC One.

The commentator for the UK's coverage of Eurovision said: “Hopefully tonight we will bring you the usual beauty, mayhem, madness and of course, male nudity. We’re in here in Malmo Arena."

Meanwhile, it was Victoria, the Crown Princess of Sweden opened the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday evening. She said: "Good evening. It’s my great honour to welcome you all to Sweden. I hope you will enjoy the show and I wish all the contestants the best of luck."

It was Sweden's act Marcus & Martinus who kicked off the competition with their performance of Unforgettable. But a few acts later and Lithuania's Silvester Belt took to the stage with Luktelk.

And Eurovision fans couldn't help but point out that Silvestras Beltė, professionally known as Silvester Belt, bared an uncanny resemblance to the UK's own Olly.
