The Finish Line star Sarah Greene has candidly shared how her late husband played cupid from beyond the grave, helping her find love again with his close friend.

Sarah Greene, aged 66 and known for co-hosting BBC One's quiz show alongside Roman Kemp, was wed to the Radio Breakfast Show icon Mike Smith in 1989 until his untimely death in 2014 at the age of 59 following complications from major heart surgery.

Nearly ten years on, in 2022, the former Blue Peter presenter disclosed that she had started a relationship with Robb Gravett, a 68-year-old British retired racing driver and team owner, who was one of her late husband's oldest friends. Speaking on the My Time Capsule podcast, Greene revealed that her late spouse had a significant role in sparking their romance.

"I sort of know Mike is pulling so many strings in my life," she expressed. "He has undoubtedly been responsible for me meeting my beloved who was one of his oldest friends, who waited a certain amount of time but did keep leaving messages on the answering machine. I thought he was just being kind."

Greene described how a message eventually made it clear that Gravett's intentions were romantic: "Then I got a message almost saying 'For God's sake, Greeno, Robb is trying to make contact with you because he actually wants to take you out, not because he's kind. So will you just get off your arse and go and answer the phone next time it rings! '", reports the Mirror.

Sarah reached out and a 'whole new conversation started'. She shared: "I'm sure, and Robb is very sure too because it's a very strange situation."

Initially, the host was 'terribly worried' and questioned Robb about whether he found it odd going 'into the house and seeing all these pictures everywhere of Mike'.

In the podcast, Sarah was prompted to disclose five items she'd choose for a time capsule; four to preserve and one to bury and forget. The chat saw the ex-Doctor Who star open up about her late spouse and her fresh romance after his unfortunate passing.

Sarah, who famously co-hosted Going Live! alongside Phillip Schofield during the 80s, recounted how her new beau reassured her, saying it would have been weirder if there were no reminders of Mike in the home, adding that he "loves him too".
