BBC Lost Boys & Fairies full cast, how to watch, plot and filming locations in Wales

The BBC has a new Welsh drama Lost Boys & Fairies, which is hitting our screens as a three-parter. The series tells the fictional, tender, glittering story of singer and artiste-extraordinaire Gabriel, his partner Andy and their journey to adoption.

Filmed in and around Cardiff, the series is now available in full on BBC iPlayer and is being shown weekly on BBC One. The new series is led by actors who have starred in Apple TV’s Slow Horses and Marvel series Hawkeye.

The series is Duck Soup Films’ first commission for BBC One and BBC iPlayer and is written by Welsh writer Daf James and directed by James Kent (The Capture, Testament of Youth). It is Daf’s first original screenplay for the BBC and was developed as part of BBC Writersroom’s TV Drama Writers’ Programme 2019. Additional funding support has been provided by Creative Wales, the Welsh Government agency that supports the growth of the creative sectors.

When is it on TV?

The three-part series is now available in full on BBC iPlayer and airs on BBC One weekly from Monday, June 3 at 9pm.

What's it about?

The full series plot teases: “Together with his partner Andy, Gabe longs to adopt a child and to do so they must convince their social worker Jackie that they’re up to the task. But Gabe is masking his demons: the effects of decades of shame having grown up in a society that overwhelmingly treated being gay as a sin; shame which Gabe is still processing. Packed with songs, often used in surprising ways, Lost Boys & Fairies is a ‘coming of middle-age’ story, both bold and deeply heart-wrenching, filled to the brim with humour, redemption, and love.”

Where was it filmed?

The drama was filmed at locations in and around Cardiff, including Danish bakery Brod in Pontcanna and Cardiff's Custom House, which was transformed into a nightclub.

"The biggest highlight was walking into the club Neverland, seeing what our wonderful designer Keith Dunn had done with that old derelict Custom House," says Sharon D Clarke who plays Claire.
