BBC MasterChef fans were left less than impressed with the calibre of amateur chefs in the latest episode, which aired. The hopefuls struggled to win over judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode, and even more so to charm viewers at home.

The audience's frustration was palpable on X, previously known as Twitter, where they expressed their disappointment. @clm2071 didn't hold back, stating: "I've never said this before but I think they should put none of them through #MasterChef."

@helenruthfisher also chimed in: "Pretty sure that none of these contestants would have gone through if they'd have been in any other episode! #masterchef.

She also asked: "Can they decide they actually don't want to give any more aprons? #masterchef," She further questioned the show's decisions. She added: "Pretty sure that none of these contestants would have gone through if they'd have been in any other episode! #masterchef", adding a touch of humour with a laughing emoji.

@bobbyp57 shared his thoughts, suggesting a low bar for success: "These have all the potential of being the weakest 6 so far. Poach an egg and you're through #MasterChef."

In a similar vein, sied_gymraeg mocked the simplicity of the dishes presented, quipping: "I reckon I could have got through tonight with beans on toast main followed by Angel Delight #MasterChef."

Even John seemed to echo the sentiments of the viewers when he expressed his astonishment at the contestants' basic culinary skills, or lack thereof. Faced with a brunch challenge, many participants stumbled over what many consider a fundamental cooking skill.

"I'm surprised that not all of them knew how to poach an egg perfectly," he remarked to Gregg. However, Gregg stood up for the contestants, explaining: "Shall I tell you what the issue is? Stress and MasterChef nerves. That's what the issue is."

Despite some viewers taking issue with the show, as per usual, three of the hopefuls advanced to the quarter-final. In a twist that has become a point of contention this season, they faced judgement in the final round by former MasterChef contestants.
