BBC News at 10 presenter was left sitting in an awkward silence for 4 minutes after a technical glitch

The BBC News at 10 programme experienced some major technical difficulties, in which presenter Huw Edwards was left sat in silence for four minutes.

The glitch meant the "Breaking News" screen flashed up a total of 11 times.

The BBC confirmed it was as a result of a "technical system crash" seconds before the programme was due to air. Edwards was seen on camera shuffling his papers and twiddling his thumbs, unaware the cameras were rolling.

Eventually, the programme resumed with an apology from the presenter. Meanwhile, Twitter was soon to pick up on the interruption and a series of comical tweets were posted by users.
