Yahoo News BBC One announces new drama The Reckoning based on Jimmy Savile scandal

BBC One has announced plans for a new drama based on the Jimmy Savile scandal.
Titled The Reckoning, the drama will document Savile's career and the sexual abuse scandal that emerged after his death in 2011.
So far no casting news has been announced.
The series' executive producer Jeff Pope said in a statement that it was "a story that has to be told".
He added: "We must understand why a man like Jimmy Savile seemed to remain immune for so long to proper scrutiny and criminal investigation."
BBC drama controller Piers Wenger said that the new drama will "not intend to sensationalise these crimes" but aims "to give voice to his victims".
"We will work with survivors to ensure their stories are told with sensitivity and respect and to examine the institutions which Jimmy Savile was associated with and the circumstances in which these crimes took place," he said.
"Drama has the ability to tackle sensitive real life subjects and consider the impact of a crime on its survivors and what lessons can be learnt to stop this ever happening again."
Savile rose to fame in the 1970s as the host of Top of the Pops and Jim'll Fix It, and was also a DJ on Radio 1.
The Reckoning will air on BBC One.
