The One Show presenters Alex Jones and Roman Kemp were back on screens on Thursday, July 11, after the programme was taken off air on Wednesday night for coverage of the Euros 2024 semi-final between England and the Netherlands.

England are now through to the final on Sunday, July 14, against Spain after Gareth Southgate's team scored a late goal in the game, beating Netherlands 2-1 in Berlin. And as Alex and Roman opened Thursday's live show, Roman couldn't contain his excitement.

Welsh presenter Alex welcomed viewers, telling them: "Hello there it's Thursday, and you're watching The One Show live on BBC One and iPlayer with Roman Kemp and Alex Jones."

She then turned to Roman who looked ready to burst as he said: "I've got to say it what a result for England last night at the Euros, come on! Feels like it's coming home."

"Well, you were there, weren't you?" Alex said, to which Roman sheepishly admitted: "I haven't been to bed...," before quickly adding: "I have mum, sorry."

Promising her co-host she'd pick up the slack, Alex told Roman: "I've got it, don't worry, I've got it," before reeling off the guests who would be joining them on the show, including Deadpool actors Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman and Jenna Coleman, who is the star of BBC's new drama The Jetty.

However, it wasn't long before talk reverted to football, with presenter Jermaine Jenas, who has been hosting from Germany, joining Alex and Roman via video call. He told them: "I hope we all get to say those magical three words on Sunday that I'm not going to be saying right now, but fingers crossed."

Back in the studio, an excited Roman said: "Ah, do you know what? I'm going to say the three magical words, it's coming home."

"There you are you've done it now," Alex teased before Roman added: "Come on, you've got to get behind them, the whole country is invested."

Alex then asked: "Are you going back to see the one [game] on Sunday?" which led Roman to issue the second apology of the night to his mum.

"I might be, I haven't told my mum, sorry," he said. Roman, who is best known as a radio host on Capital FM breakfast show and came third place in the nineteenth series of I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!, isn't the only famous face in his family.

His dad is Spandau Ballet's Martin Kemp, who is known to many for his role as Steve Owen in EastEnders. Meanwhile, Roman's mum is singer Shirlie Kemp, who found fame in the 1980s with Wham! and as part of the duo Pepsi & Shirlie.

The One Show continues on weeknights at 7pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
