BBC Race Across the World viewers were left gutted during the third episode of the 2024 series as Sharon and Brydie were knocked out of the competition. The mother-and-daughter duo were last to make it to a checkpoint in Cambodia's capital Phnom Penh, meaning they were eliminated.

Those still in the competition are Alfie and Owen, Betty and James, Eugenie and Isabel, and Stephen and Viv, who were the fourth couple to reach the checkpoint. The remaining contestants will now travel through Thailand as they continue the race to the finish line in Lombok, an idyllic Indonesian island paradise.

Viewers were left gutted over Sharon, 52, and 25-year-old Brydie's elimination. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan wrote: "Awh. They shouldn’t eliminate people. They’ve done so well to get this far," while another added: "Brydie and Sharon were great, gutted they’re gone, such lovely people."

As a third commented: "Damn shame!! Gutted! These two were my favourite pair by absolute miles" and a fourth wrote: "I’m so sad that Sharon and Brydie are out of the race, they were such a lovely pair and seemed to get a lot out of the experience."

"My favourites are out," said another, before adding: "Gutted for Sharon and Brydie, what a lovely pair," as a second echoed: "Elimination leg can get in the bin, especially when my favourite team lost to my least favourite team."

Speaking about why they signed up for Race Across the World before the series started, cleaner Sharon said: "It just looks amazing, it looks fun. I watched it with my family at home, and Brydie was in Canada at the time and then we went out to visit and we watched it together. She just looked at me and I looked at her and we thought 'we could do this' and so that’s exactly how it happened."

They also shared how their strategy was their closeness, as Sharon said: "The only thing we’re doing is we’re sharing everything as mum and daughter. So, one’s got shampoo, one's got conditioner, you know, to lighten the load."

Snowboard instructor Brydie added: "I think that’s our best strategy, our relationship because we’re really tight." You can keep up to date with the latest TV and showbiz news by signing up to the newsletter here.
