The line-up for this year’s BBC Radio 2 in the Park festival has been announced - and the event is set to feature big performances from the likes of Sting, Sugababes, Manic Street Preachers and Pet Shop Boys.

Taking place at Preston’s Moor Park on Saturday 7 and Sunday, September 8, the festival has become a big hit with thousands of festival-goers each year given the chance to watch some of the most loved music artists. Last year’s festival, which took place in Leicester, was headlined by Kylie Minogue and Tears for Fears.

Announcing the line-up of the Lancashire festival on the Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on Radio 2 this morning, this year’s event in Preston will be headlined by Sting and his new power rock trio, including long-time collaborator Dominic Miller and drummer Chris Maas. The trio will bring surprise rarities and The Police classics to the stage on Saturday night (September 7).

Zoe Ball said: “Our Radio 2 family can't wait to be back with our listeners dancing and singing our hearts out! We've all grown up listening to Pet Shop Boys and Sting, they sure know how to put on a great show so hold tight Preston. We're going to have a blast.”

In addition, the ‘Big Top of Bop’ area will feature some of Radio 2’s favourite presenters as they play some of their favourite songs from the past six decades. For the first time, there will also be a Radio 2 in the Park Pre-Party on the DJ stage on Friday night (September 6) featuring the likes of Sara Cox, Vernon Kay, Scott Mills, Rylan and DJ Spoony.

Jeff Smith, Head of Music for Radio 2, added: “Following last year's incredible Radio 2 in the Park in Leicester, we are delighted to hand the baton to Preston. Only Radio 2 could present another star studded line up featuring some of the UK and the world's most loved pop artists from the last six decades performing their biggest songs.

“We can’t wait to bring the Radio 2 listeners and presenting family together in Preston for an unforgettable weekend of live music.”
