BBC The Repair Shop's Jay Blades fights back tears after emotional guest confession

An emotional episode of The Repair Shop saw host Jay Blades fighting back tears.

In the episode aired on Tuesday, July 2, sisters Fredericka and Louisa Charles from London brought in a cherished family heirloom to be restored.

The siblings presented Mark Stuckey and Sonnaz Nooranvary with a 1960s radiogram that belonged to their parents, who were part of the Windrush generation.

Their parents, originally from Dominica, had been given the chance to start anew in England when Caribbean individuals were invited to help rebuild the country post-war.

The radiogram was one of their first significant purchases. Fredericka shared that it was primarily used on Sundays, which was considered "the big social day" for their extended family to gather and enjoy music.

After their father passed away in 2013, the family would congregate and "play a couple of his tunes on it."

However, they were heartbroken when the radiogram suddenly stopped functioning in 2019.

Later in the show, the sisters returned to the repair shop with a record in tow.

Fredericka held a Mona Lisa record by Nat King Cole - a song their parents frequently played. "They're anticipating it's working," Jay humorously remarked, to which Mark responded: "Well, that's what I was wondering."

Fredericka remarked upon the restoration of their cherished item, expressing: "Um, joy, really. Joy and really happy memories."

The moment Mark unveiled the newly repaired radiogram, Louisa was visibly moved to tears.

As music began to play from the vintage device, a nostalgic wave of emotion washed over Louisa, causing her to bury her face in her hands. Fredericka held back her own tears as both Jay and Mark listened empathetically.

Fredericka additionally said: "That transported me right back and all I could see was my mum and my dad."

She stunned everyone present including Jay who struggled with his emotions while the sisters expressed their gratitude.

A touched 54-year-old Jay told them: "I can't thank you enough for bringing it in... and taking me back down memory lane."

Mark offered his thoughts too saying, "It's been a real pleasure, it really has. Now, time to enjoy."

The Repair Shop is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
