BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Fleur East says 'I can't' as she's asked about daughter's birth in first interview

Fleur East has said she's not ready to talk about the birth of her first child just yet as she returned to her radio show for the first time since going on maternity leave. The Strictly Come Dancing star caught up with her Hits Radio pal James Barr and stand-in host Angelica Bell on Monday (April 22).

It's been a few months since Fleur was last on the radio waves as she headed on maternity to leave before welcoming her daughter, Nova, into the world last month with her husband Marcel Robin.

The Strictly It Takes Two host delighted her fans over the recent Easter weekend when she revealed she and her husband Marcel had welcomed their baby girl into the world by sharing pictures of the sweet bundle of joy and her name for the first time. Fleur could be seen carrying their newborn in a baby sling as they took a trip out and about.

In the caption of the post, Fleur confirmed they'd named their daughter Nova and that she made her entrance "via squat position into the arms of my Husband and I on our living room floor," the new mum said.

During her chat with James, Angelica and Matt, Fleur brought her Hits Radio family up to date with her life as a new mum, having given birth to baby Nova just three weeks ago, and listeners were treated to a little gurgle from Nova herself.

"It’s so weird to talk to other adults - I’ve been talking in a baby voice for so many weeks now," Fleur said. "The first week was a complete blur, I was just a walking zombie, I didn’t know what was going on. I felt like I was a milk machine for seven days straight, but now I’m adjusting I feel a little bit more human. It’s going to take some time but I’m enjoying it a lot more now.

It is then when she commented: "I can't go into it [the birth] I need some time to get over it to be honest. It’s funny because there’s a spot in my living room that every time I walk past, I’m reminded of exactly where Nova was born and that makes it a little harder to get around!"

Fleur added: "I think she has the Fleur East vocals - her pitch and tone are very clear. When she starts crying it’s like OK those lungs are working - she can project very well... Loads of people say to me you’re never going to remember life without her, and I try to but it’s very hazy, it feels like it’s in the distant past. And it is weird now, I can’t imagine going day to day without Nova in my life. It’s very strange but amazing!"
