BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Giovanni Pernice 'quits' show after 'tough training' claims
Strictly Come Dancing professional Giovanni Pernice has reportedly told friends he's leaving the dance show. It comes after the 33-year-old dancer came under criticism from his most recent dance partner Amanda Abbington.
The actress left the BBC show in the fifth week of the competition. Amanda later addressed the news and cited 'personal reasons' for her departure.
But it was later revealed that the Sherlock actress had been diagnosed with mild post-traumatic stress disorder after her time on the competition as rumours circulated she was not enjoying the tough training sessions with the Italian dancer. Some of his previous dance partners have also reportedly taken issue with his methods.

A source told The Sun tonight: "Gio feels the scrutiny on him has become too much, and now is the time to make a fresh start. He wants to focus on other TV projects, and feels he's achieved all he can on Strictly, having won the trophy back in 2021 and reaching the final an unprecedented four times.
"He remains adamant he's done nothing wrong other than being a hard taskmaster, but knows his style of training isn't to everyone's liking - especially in this day and age.
"He has a lot of other exciting projects in the pipeline right now, and he's just super-excited to get cracking on them. This, now, is his priority."
Giovanni has recently finished his 'The Last Dance' tour and is now taking a break on a holiday and is said to have been given time to think about his decision. He already has a tour lined up with Strictly judge Anton Du Beke this summer, called Anton and Giovanni Together.
BBC Strictly Come Dancing marks its 20th anniversary this year. Giovanni joined the cast of the show in 2015 and has been a favourite with fans. He scooped the Glitterball trophy in 2021 with EastEnders' actress Rose Ayling-Ellis.
The dancer recently defended his training style. Speaking on a podcast he previously said: "I am a perfectionist, 100 per cent, but it comes from a perspective of caring.
"I think all of the professional dancers are in the same place. It's a shame because, in my opinion, she (Amanda) could have gone all the way."
A BBC spokesperson told The Sun: "The professional dancers for Strictly Come Dancing 2024 will be announced in due course." Representatives for Giovanni chose not to comment to the publication.
