BBC Strictly producers sifting through 'hundreds of hours of training footage' amid 'abuse' scandal

Strictly Come Dancing training footage is set to come under intense scrutiny as BBC bosses have reportedly ordered a review of hundreds of hours of material amid the unfolding Giovanni Pernice controversy, it has been reported.

The broadcaster's chiefs are said to be delving into the archives of training sessions following claims against Giovanni, who recently received public backing from his family.

The professional dancer, known for his ballroom and Latin prowess, has been at the centre of allegations suggesting he engaged in "abuse" through his rigorous training methods with celebrity partners, including last year's pairing with actress Amanda Abbington. Amidst rumours that he has left the show, Giovanni has firmly refuted any accusations of misconduct.

An internal memo that was circulated without Giovanni's name listed on this year's professional dancers' lineup added to the whispers about his potential exit. Reports have emerged that he might be facing legal challenges from three ex-Strictly partners over the allegations, while the BBC is believed to be conducting an investigation of its own, reports the Mirror.

Over the weekend, Giovanni took to Instagram to address the situation, emphatically denying any "abusive or threatening behaviour". His statement read: "To my dear fans, you will be as surprised as I am that allegations have been made about my dance teaching methods in the media this week."

Giovanni has vehemently denied any allegations of inappropriate behaviour, stating: "Of course, I reject any suggestion of abusive or threatening behaviour, and I look forward to clearing my name. Those who have followed my journey on Strictly Come Dancing over the last decade will know that I am passionate and competitive. No-one is more ambitious for my dance partners than me."

He continued: "I have always striven to help them be the very best dancers they can be. This has always come from a place of love and wanting to win - for me and my dance partners. Thank you all once again for your continued love and support!"

In the meantime, the BBC is reportedly in the process of "evidence gathering", amid rumours that "at least one or two more celebrities" may be consulting with legal teams. According to reports, these unnamed female stars, all previous dance partners of Giovanni, are considering joining three other claimants already pursuing legal action.

A source disclosed to The Sun: "Three women that we know of have come forward, and taken things a step further with legal action," adding, "But Carter Ruck, the prestigious firm acting on behalf of these stars, have quietly been speaking to one or two other potential claimants. In other words, more names could come out of the woodwork."

This week, a close friend of Giovanni's family defended the professional dancer, stating that his family have been unwavering in their support and "will not have a bad word said about him". Speaking to MailOnline, they shared: "They are the typical Italian family and stick together through thick and thin, they are his biggest fans and they will not have a bad word said about him."
