BBC Strictly star lands role in groundbreaking new BBC thriller

Rose Ayling-Ellis, the former Strictly Come Dancing and EastEnders star, has been cast in a new groundbreaking BBC thriller titled Reunion. The four-part series is unique as it features a cast and crew largely made up of individuals who are deaf or use British Sign Language (BSL).

The series is penned by deaf writer William Mager and centres on deaf character Daniel Brennan, played by Matthew Gurney, who seeks to rectify his mistakes and uncover the truth behind the events that led him to prison. Lara Peake will portray his estranged daughter Carly, with Anne-Marie Duff, Eddie Marson and others joining the cast.

Anne-Marie, known for her role in The Salisbury Poisonings, will play Christine, who is desperate to find Brennan and discover the truth, while Eddie will play her protective boyfriend Stephen Renworth. Rose will take on the role of Christine's daughter Miri.

Matthew expressed his excitement about the project, stating: "William's scripts are electrifying and it's a privilege to bring Brennan to life in this gripping tale of revenge, redemption and reconciliation". Anne-Marie also shared her enthusiasm, saying: "I am genuinely thrilled to be a part of this very exciting production." She added: "It is rare to witness a narrative where the audience is taken on a journey with a very different set of senses." Anne-Marie further commented on the importance of acknowledging each other's truths within our families and beyond, and praised the extraordinary team, expressing her honour to be working alongside them.

Warp Films' Mark Herbert has described the project as a "testament" to the studio's dedication to "genuine representation and thrilling inclusive storytelling". He highlighted that these narratives connect "with all audiences whilst amplifying the voices and talents of an often-overlooked community both on and off screen".

Caroline Cooper Charles, chief executive of Screen Yorkshire, expressed her excitement about Reunion, stating: "This fantastic cast underlines how extraordinarily excited we are about Reunion." She added that Screen Yorkshire is immensely proud to back a show that champions inclusivity and representation at its core.
